At Local Power, our mission is to help homes, businesses and farms reduce their energy costs and lower their emissions.
Our Story
Local Power was founded in 2016. This year was interesting for two reasons. Climate Change was continuing to worsen. 2016 marked the third year in a row that global temperature records were set. Yet, technological innovation had lowered the cost of renewables. They were now economically competitive with traditional energy sources.
Early days
Our founder, Pat Smith, saw that Solar PV could play a vital role in helping Irish consumers lower their energy costs and reduce their carbon emissions. The problem was that not all Solar Panels are created equal. Pat remembered the solar tubes installed on Irish houses in the past. This early solar technology didn’t stand up to the test of time. It was difficult to know if the panels then on the market would be the same. There was a clear need for a quality solar PV offering underpinned by expert guidance to ensure Irish customers could access solar products and services that would last well into the future.
So, Pat founded Local Power. We partnered with world-class renewable technology providers such as Solarwatt, teamed up with expert local electricians around the country and continued to learn. Since then, we haven’t looked back.
From Solar PV to EV charging
Local Power has continued to grow. We’ve installed solar panels in almost every county in Ireland with installs ranging from 2kwp domestic to 400kwp commercial installs. Along the way, we saw that there was a need for a premium and trustworthy product in other areas, particularly in the world of EV charging. For this reason, in 2019, we became the premier partner of ChargePoint in Ireland. ChargePoint boasts the largest EV charging network in the world. They’ve delivered over 92 million charges to date. Our partnership with them ensures Irish customers have access to a futureproofed EV charging solution for their fleet, business or home.
Going forward
At Local Power, our aim is to continue to offer world-class renewable technologies to Irish customers. We all have to change our behaviour to mitigate the effects of Climate Change. It is our belief that with the right technology and advice this change won’t just be economically viable, it will be financially attractive. Our promise remains the same: ‘To advise our customers wisely and deliver commercially smart solutions.’ Or in other words, to make sure we do what’s right for you.
